That weight saving matters most where plant layout, support structure or offshore topside weight is under pressure, but it also makes the connector easier and quicker to handle and install on a standard industrial site. The reduced bolt load compared with a full flange bolt circle means less time spent aligning and tightening during assembly, cutting installation labour alongside the material saving.
