Destec supplies seal rings with a colour coding system built into the PTFE coating, allowing site personnel to identify the base material of a seal ring visually before it is fitted into a joint. Low alloy and carbon steel is coded violet blue, martensitic steel olive grey, austenitic steel ruby red, the nickel chromium alloys X750, 718 and 725 grass green, duplex and super duplex black, and nickel chromium 625 plus light orange. This system reduces the risk of a mismatched material being installed into a critical high pressure or high temperature joint, particularly on sites carrying stock of multiple seal ring materials for different applications across the plant. The colour coding sits alongside standard material certification and traceability documentation, giving a quick visual check in addition to the paperwork trail that should accompany every seal ring supplied.
