Where a joint faces severe corrosion or erosion, Destec supplies shrouded seal rings that protect the sealing element by fitting sleeves within the bore, extending the service life of the connection in environments that would otherwise attack the seal ring material directly. Shrouds are available in special materials and are often fitted in conjunction with lined pipe, giving a consistent level of protection across both the pipe run and the seal ring itself at the joint. The standard, unshrouded Destec seal ring is already satisfactory for normal pipe corrosion allowances, so the shrouded version is specified specifically for applications with elevated corrosion or erosion risk beyond typical service conditions. Shrouded seal rings retain the same reusable, all-metal core design as the standard range, meaning the added protection does not compromise the seal ring's ability to be dismantled and reused over multiple maintenance cycles.
