The seal ring is manufactured as an all-metal, elastic design, meaning it reverts to its original form once dismantled and is ready for reuse without needing to be replaced, unlike a conventional compressible gasket. Standard sizes are manufactured in 5mm steps to closely match the bore of the component being sealed, and where an exact match is required Destec manufactures a purpose designed seal ring to suit. Seal rings over 200mm diameter can be manufactured with a central rib, keeping seating stress high while holding the overall width of the ring down to a manageable size.
