Specialist One Piece Forged Eye Rods For High Performance Jacking Systems
At Brooks Forgings Ltd, we take pride in manufacturing high-quality forged eye bolts and eye rods. With extensive on-site forging and machining capability, we are well placed to support bespoke component production and repeat batch work.
In applications that demand high-performance mechanical jacking and power transmission, worm-driven or ball screw-driven designs are commonly used. For lower-capacity duties, a conventional approach is often a fabricated two-piece main rod with an eye or clevis end that is welded or threaded onto a standard drive shaft. While this method can be suitable in some cases, it can introduce a risk of weld or thread failure when loads increase.
To overcome this, Brooks Forgings produces one-piece forged rod ends that improve structural integrity by maintaining aligned, compressed and continuous grain flow through the component.
Hot forged blanks are produced from 57mm (2.25-inch) diameter 080M40 material.
One of our long-standing customers in the actuation and lifting sector has seen the benefits of this approach and regularly orders forged one-piece eye rod ends/screws for specialised 15-ton jacking systems. Typical orders are supplied in batches of up to 2,000 pieces at a time.
The forged blanks are made from 57mm (2.25-inch) diameter 080M40 material using a combination of upset forging and pressing. After forging, the parts are shot blasted and then independently tested, including tensile testing and chemical analysis, to confirm they meet the required standards.
Brooks Forgings also pre-machines the forgings in-house, preparing the main shaft and the centre eye so the end user can complete their final operations, such as machining the final thread form.
Machined dimensions are inspected using a Marposs Merlin system to ensure every component meets the specified tolerances. This includes checking the external diameter of the eye rod shank and the internal diameter of the drilled eye.
Each component is then marked using a micro-percussion system, providing full traceability via batch and heat treatment numbers.
For safe transport and delivery, every part is carefully wrapped for protection and packed securely in wooden boxes, ensuring orders arrive in excellent condition.
Brooks Forgings is committed to providing high-quality products and a service tailored to the needs of each customer. Please contact us with your requirements.
