Through Hardening Steel

Steel is an alloy of carbon and iron, with carbon dictating the hardness and grade of engineering steel. Carbon has consistently proved itself to be the most cost effective alloying material for iron, however, other materials such as tungsten or manganese can also be used to bring certain properties. Varying the amount of alloying elements in engineering steel controls properties such as it’s hardness, ductility and tensile strength.
