Measurement of Supercharger Power Consumption

Interface was asked to help measure a supercharger's power consumption, specifically the power required at the crankshaft to spin the supercharger drive belt on a petrol engine. The sensor needed to withstand large radial forces from the drive belt as well as vibration from the engine itself. The solution used an Interface T22 Pulley torque transducer installed on the engine crankshaft via a custom pulley replacing the existing crank pulley, feeding data to a 9850 digital indicator for collection and display. With this setup, the customer could accurately measure the power consumed by the supercharger, complete an efficiency budget analysis, and make adjustments to optimise supercharger efficiency based on real measured data rather than estimates.
